Clara Adolphs, 18th Adelaide Biennial of Australian Art: ‘Inner Sanctum’
CHALK HORSE is thrilled to celebrate Clara Adolphs’ inclusion in the 18th Adelaide Biennial of Australian Art: ‘Inner Sanctum.’
Curated by José da Silva, the Biennial offers an encounter with artists and poets interested in the human condition. Here, the idea of an inner sanctum illustrates the private or sacred spaces we create and the faculty of imagination that allows us to see culture and society differently.
For ‘Inner Sanctum’, Adolphs assembles candid shots of groups in landscapes, solitary figures, and clouds. Adolphs finds that these readymade scenes have a universal appeal, what she describes as ‘a collective memory bank’, adding further, “The wider world and society might change, but the human condition doesn’t.”
Join Clara Adolphs tomorrow in conversation with Adelaide Biennial artists Seth Birchall, Lawrence English, Teelah George for a panel discussion facilitated by Liz Nowell, the Executive Director of Arts Projects Australia. The discussion starts at 11am, at AGSA Courtyard.
The Biennial is on view from March 1st until June 2nd at the Art Gallery of South Australia.
