New Representation: Harry McAlpine

Chalk Horse is thrilled to announce representation of Aoetearoa born artist Harry McAlpine.

Working within the formal and conceptual framework of contemporary drawing, McAlpine combines technical faculty with an interest in the ‘expanded operations’ of drawing, including performative actions, sculptural elements and photography. Mcalpine’s work, usually steeped in mirth and absurdity, often seeks to deal with the idiosyncrasies of modern living, and more broadly, the human psyche.

McAlpine completed a BFA at Whitecliffe College of Art and Design, Auckland, and graduated with honours in 2016. Mcalpine has since had multiple solo exhibitions and showed in both Australia and New Zealand, at galleries that include Laree Payne Gallery, Hamilton; The Wellington Acadamy of Fine Arts, Wellington; The Pah Homestead, Auckland; The Gallery of Western Australia, Perth; Chalk Horse, Sydney. This year McAlpine will feature as a finalist in the 2021 Bowness Prize at the Monash Gallery of Art, Melbourne. McAlpine is represented by Chalk Horse, Sydney and Laree Payne Gallery, Greater North Island, NZ. His work is in the Wallace Arts Trust Collection.
